5. Select the New button. An Enter Abbreviation system keyboard popup will open.
6. Use the keyboard buttons to enter INY and then select the OK button to close the keyboard
popup. An Enter Expansion system keyboard popup will open.
7. Use the keyboard buttons to enter It’s nice to see you and then select the OK button to close
the keyboard popup.
8. Select the Save to Card button.
9. Select the Yes button to confirm that you want to save the new abbreviation expansion to
your device’s main data storage card. This process, which will prevent your abbreviation
expansions from being lost in the event of a device failure, may take a moment. An hourglass
icon will be presented while the information is being saved to the data storage card.
10. Select the OK button to close the Abbreviation Browser menu.
11. Select the OK button to close the Tools menu.
The initials INY are now recorded as an abbreviation for “It’s nice to see you.” To see how this new
abbreviation will work, use the steps from the word prediction exercise to open the a keyboard page
again. Then follow these steps to test the abbreviation expansion:
1. Use the alphabet buttons on the keyboard page to enter INY.
2. Select the Space button. The phrase “It’s nice to see you” will automatically replace the
abbreviation in the Message Window.
3. Select the Message Window to speak the sentence.
Macros
You can also increase your speed on the DV4/MT4 device by using macros. The macro feature of DynaVox
Series 4 software lets you create customized operations that include all the behaviors for completing a
task that would typically require numerous selections. Once a macro has been created, it can be added to
a button as part of an Activate Macro behavior. Macros promote efficiency since the Activate a Macro
behavior enables you to launch all the steps in a macro with only one button selection.
Macros can be combined with other features of your DV4/MT4 device, like the DynaVox Series 4
environmental control capabilities. Create macros for activities you do often, like turning on the TV for
favorite programs. A single macro could turn on the living room light, turn on the television, change the
channel and speak the message "My favorite show is on."
