transducer should only be supported from its hard aluminum flange or rigid PVC body. No clamps or
supports should be placed on the neoprene sensor boot. Doing so has the potential to cause the boot to
tear and/or damage the transducer.
12. Periodic Maintenance
Maintenance on the 2205 Series Systems should be performed after each deployment or following the
vehicle’s recovery cycle.
12.1 Inspecting and Cleaning the Bottle and Transducers after Use
After retrieving the vehicle from the water, use a hose to wash the bottle and transducers with clean, fresh
water. Thoroughly spray the transducer arrays and remove any buildup of debris. Inspect the cables and
connectors for any damage or loose connections. Also inspect the interconnect cables and the bulkhead
connectors on each end.
After washing down the bottle, clean the transducer arrays using a mild, non-abrasive detergent and
water. Do not use any abrasive detergents or ammonia-based cleaners. After cleaning, thoroughly spray
the transducer arrays again with fresh water.
12.2 Connector Endcap
The connector endcap should be inspected regularly. This inspection should include a visual check that
the endcap mounted sacrificial zinc is not badly corroded or in need of replacement.
12.3 Inspecting and Cleaning the Underwater Connectors
Regularly inspect the male pin contacts on each underwater connector for corrosion or oxidation. To
remove any oxidation, rub the contacts lightly with 800 grit emery cloth cut into strips equal to or less
than the width of a contact. A pencil eraser can also be used for this purpose. The female sockets can be
cleaned using a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. A .22 caliber bore brush with only nylon bristles can be
used to remove light oxidation.
To extend the life and increase the reliability of the connectors, apply a thin film of silicone
dielectric grease, such as Novagard G624 general purpose silicone grease or an equivalent, to the entire
surface of each male pin. A small amount of grease should also be applied to the opening of each female
socket.
