10. Transducer Characteristics
10.1 Side Scan Transducer Capacitance
Capacitance measurements were made using a LCR meter at 1kHz (table 10-1). Similar measurements
can be made with a capacitance measurement capable DVM. Note that these measurements should be
used as a guide and not an absolute as to a transducer’s status. Extreme deviation (>30%) from these
values, will often be the indicator of a bad transducer.

10.2 Sub-Bottom Receiver Capacitance
Capacitance measurements were made using a LCR meter at 1kHz (table 10-2). Similar measurements
can be made with a capacitor capable DVM. Note that this measurement should be used as a guide and
not an absolute as to a hydrophone’s status. Extreme deviation from this value will often be the indicator
of a bad hydrophone. As the sub-bottom transducer has an internal transformer and matching network, no
capacitance measurements can be acquired.
