6.4 Password Protected Configuration
EdgeTech maintains operational control of several system features such as pressure and magnetometer
interfaces, serial ports and network public interfaces by authorizing their usage through an Authorization
Password that is tied to the system’s Machine ID. The Machine ID is system specific and based on the
embedded CPU’s Network MAC (Media Access Control) address. The Machine ID is a component of
the EdgeTech provided authorization password (this is not the Windows login password). However, a
properly configured authorization password is required for a 3
rd
party software package or external
hardware that interfaces directly to the SONAR program running on the embedded CPU. This password
is produced during Factory software configuration and is based on the software and hardware interface
requirements. EdgeTech uses the Machine ID that relates to the native Network Port on the CPU carrier
board. If a USB based network port is introduced by the user, its Machine ID will not correlate to the
Factory derived password. The password is a 24-character hexadecimal code that is entered directly into
