Installation
3.9 Connect the oil pressure switches (IDX pumps only)
Ensure to route the thermal snap-switch cable away from hot surfaces of the pump or other equipment. If not,
the cable may be damaged.
Connect the output of each oil pressure switch so that the pump is automatically switched off if the oil supply at
either end fails.
Note: Incorporate a suitable time delay in the signal of the control circuit to allow the pump to start, as initially
there is low oil pressure until the pump attains full rotational speed. The amount of delay will depend on
the ramp-up time set on the VFD.
Alternatively a time delay relay can be incorporated in the control circuit.
3.10 Pump motor electrical connections
3.10.1 Introduction
Make the electrical connections to the pump motor as described in the following sections.
Edwards recommends connecting the electrical supply to the pump motor through a suitable current monitor, and
configuring the high current setting on the current monitor to switch off the pump motor at a suitable overload
Connect the oil pressure switches so that the pump stops when either of the switches or the
thermal snap switch opens. If not, a fire may result.
Ensure that the electrical installation of the pump conforms to local and national safety
requirements. It must be connected to a suitably fused and protected electrical supply and a
suitable earth (ground) point.
Use suitable flameproof cable glands to connect the electrical supply and control cables to the
pump motor of CDX pumps. If not, the installation will not be flameproof.
If the CDX pump is part of an ATEX system, refer to the ATEX system instruction manual before
making any of the electrical connections. There may be additional electrical requirements
mandated by the ATEX Directive.
Incorporate a manual reset device in the pump electrical supply circuit. If not, and a fault
condition causes a transient failure of the electrical supply, the pump will automatically switch on
again when the electrical supply is restored. If maintenance or fault finding has been started on
the pump, there will then be a risk of injury to people.
