5Maintenance
5.1 Safety information
z A suitably trained and supervised technician must maintain the pump.
z Ensure that the pump is stationary before carrying out any maintenance.
z Ensure that the pump is located in a well lit area with sufficient space around it to allow maintenance to be
carried out safely.
z Ensure that the installation technician is familiar with the safety procedures that relate to the products
handled by the pumping system. Wear the appropriate safety clothing when coming into contact with
contaminated components. Dismantle and clean contaminated components inside a fume cupboard.
z Use suitable lifting equipment and wear safety shoes when replacing the pump motor.
z Leave the pump to cool to a safe temperature (see Ta b l e 1) before starting maintenance work.
z Isolate the pump and other components in the process system from the electrical supply so that they cannot
be operated accidentally.
z Recheck the pump rotation direction if the electrical supply has been disconnected.
z Do not reuse O-rings or gaskets.
z Protect sealing-faces from damage.
z Do not touch or inhale the thermal breakdown products of fluorinated materials which may be present if the
pump has overheated to 260 °C (500 °F) and above. These breakdown products are very dangerous. The
pump may have overheated if it was misused, if it malfunctioned, or if it was in a fire. Edwards Safety Data
Sheets for the fluorinated materials used in the pump are available on request: contact the supplier or
Edwards.
z Leak-test the system after maintenance work is complete and seal any leaks found to prevent leakage of
dangerous substances out of the system and leakage of air into the system: refer to Section 3.16.
5.2 Maintenance plan
If the CDX pump is part of an ATEX system, maintain the pump using the schedule given in Table 15
and as described in Sections 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, 5.9, 5.10, 5.11, 5.12, 5.13, 5.14, 5.15 and 5.16 of this
manual, for the ATEX certification to remain valid.
