Installation
Do not operate the liquid ring pump under cavitation conditions. If so, there may be a risk of damage to the
pump. Refer to the bareshaft liquid ring pump instructions listed in Section 1.2.7.
3.6.2 Installation checks
1. Check that the pumping system is installed in accordance with Section 3.3.
2. Ensure all pipelines are installed in accordance with Section 3.4.
3. If installed, check the process outlet non-return valve is fully functional.
4. Check all the manual valves can be operated from fully closed to fully open and back to fully closed.
5. Check all the valves are in the closed position.
6. Check that the drive motor installation is in accordance with Section 3.5 and that electrical power is available
and according to the manufacturer's instructions.
7. Check the insulation resistance of the drive motor is in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
8. Check that the seal liquid and cooling liquid (if a heat exchanger is installed) are available.
9. Check that the upstream process system is fully drained of water.
10.Leak test the system after installation is complete and seal any leaks found to prevent leakage of hazardous
substances out of the system and leakage of air into the system.
3.6.3 Draining and flushing
If the liquid ring pump is seized and cannot be turned manually, contact the supplier or Edwards. Do not attempt
to free the shaft be applying power to the drive motor as damage to the pump may result.
If the liquid ring pump is cast iron construction then it has been treated with hydrocarbon solvent corrosion inhibitor.
If contamination is a concern, it is recommended the pump be flushed with a suitable cleaner followed if necessary
by water.
1. Refer to the installation drawing supplied with the pumping system.
2. Remove the drive guard.
3. Flush the pump with cleaner. Manually rotate the pump drive shaft in the direction of rotation indicated by the
rotation arrow on the pump casing. Ensure the pump is drained.
4. If necessary, flush the pump with water. Manually rotate the pump drive shaft in the direction of rotation
indicated by the rotation arrow on the pump casing. Ensure the pump is drained.
5. Refit the drive guard and secure the holding down bolts according to local and national safety standards.
3.6.4 Drive coupling alignment
Failure to obey the installation instructions listed below may risk damage to the liquid ring pump and drive motor
or reduce individual component lifetime.
WARNING
The fixed guard supplied with the pumping system must be fitted to protect people from rotating/
moving parts.
