5Maintenance
5.1 Safety
A suitably trained and supervised technician must maintain the pumping system. Contact Edwards for further
assistance.
Ensure that the maintenance technician is familiar with the safety procedures that relate to the products
processed by the pumping system.
Wear the appropriate safety clothing when coming into contact with contaminated components.
Ensure that all maintenance work is performed in a properly lighted area and in compliance with local and
national safety requirements.
Isolate the pump and other components from the electrical supply so that they cannot be operated
accidentally.
Leak test the vacuum system after maintenance work is complete if any process inlet or outlet joints have
connected or disconnected. Seal any leaks found.
5.2 Maintenance plan
The plans in Table 9, 10, and 11 detail the maintenance operations required to maintain the pumping system in
normal operation. Instructions for each operation are provided in the following sections. In practice, the frequency
of maintenance is dependent on the process and utilities. Adjust the maintenance plan according to experience.
5.2.1 Weekly intervals
5.2.1.1 Two week intervals

observe these instructions may result in injury to people and/or damage to equipment.
