Installation
LRP200000201 Issue A
If the pumping system is supplied with the drive coupling disassembled, remove the fixed guard supplied with the
pumping system, complete assembly of the drive coupling and align it in accordance with the manufacturer's
instructions using pre-cut shims under the drive motor. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions listed in
Section 1.2.7. Once correctly aligned, affix the guard according to local and national safety standards.
3.6.5 Pumping system priming
Note: Priming the pumping system is required during initial start-up only. Once primed the pumping system
maintains the correct water level for future start-ups.
The following instructions are intended as a guide. Actual instructions are dependent on the final pumping system
configuration.
1. Refer to the installation drawing supplied with the pumping system.
2. Open the seal liquid regulating valve.
3. If installed, open the level indicator isolation valves.
4. If installed, open the seal liquid reservoir make-up valve and fill the seal liquid reservoir until seal liquid flows
out of the overflow (TP-5). If the overflow is connected to a pipeline, the correct liquid level can be determined
using the level indicator.
5. If installed, close the seal liquid reservoir make-up valve at TP-3.
6. If installed, close the level indicator isolation valves.
7. Close the seal liquid regulating valve.
3.6.6 Check direction of pump rotation
Check the direction of rotation of the liquid ring pump as follows:
1. Edwards preferred method is to visibly check the cooling fan on the drive motor for direction of rotation. If this
is not possible, temporarily remove the drive guard.
2. If installed, ensure that all isolation valves in the process outlet pipeline are open.
3. Connect the electrical supply to the drive motor and start the pump. Check the pump drive shaft direction of
rotation corresponds with the direction arrow on the pump casing. Stop the pump after a few seconds.
4. If the direction of rotation was incorrect.
Reconfigure the electrical connections in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Perform the direction of rotation check from Step 3 again, to ensure that the pump now rotates in the
correct direction.
5. If the drive guard was removed (as in Step 1), refit the guard and secure the hold-down bolts in accordance with
local and national standards.
3.6.7 Pumping system start-up
Note: If a fault is found while performing the checks listed in this section, refer to Section 5.7 for fault finding
guidance.
WARNING
If the guard is removed during the following procedure, ensure that the operator does not come
into contact with any rotating components when operating the pump. Failure to do so can result
in injury.
