4 Operation
Edwards will accept no liability or warranty claims if the system is not used as specified in this manual or the
associated publications.
4.1 Pumping system start-up
1. Refer to the bareshaft liquid ring pump instructions listed in Section 1.2.7 and the installation drawing supplied
with the pumping system.
2. Turn on the seal liquid and cooling liquid, if total recovery.
3. Check that there are no leaks in the seal liquid and cooling liquid. Seal any leaks found.
4. Open the anti-cavitation isolating valve, if fitted
5. Energise the pumping system starter.
6. After 5 seconds, slowly open the seal liquid regulating valve until the required seal liquid flow rate is obtained:
Refer to the bareshaft liquid ring pump instructions listed in Section 1.2.7. If the pumping system has a
compound pressure gauge installed then monitor the pressure and adjust the seal liquid regulating valve until
the pressure is -0.6 to +0.0 barg.
4.2 Pumping system shut down
1. Close the seal liquid regulating valve.
2. De-energise the pumping system starter.
3. Turn off the seal and cooling liquid, if total recovery.
Should the pumping system be left idle for an extended period of time, refer to Section 6.1 for storage instructions.
