Installation
1. Refer to the installation drawing supplied with the pumping system.
2. Turn on the seal and cooling liquid, if total recovery.
3. Check that there are no leaks in the seal and cooling liquid. Seal any leaks found.
4. Open all instrument isolation valves, including the level indicator isolation valves.
5. If operating with partial recirculation, open the seal liquid make-up valve approximately half-way.
6. Energise the pumping system starter.
7. After 5 seconds, slowly open the seal liquid regulating valve until the required seal liquid flow rate is obtained:
Refer to the bareshaft liquid ring pump instructions listed in Section 1.2.7. If the pumping system has a
compound pressure gauge installed, monitor the pressure and adjust the seal liquid regulating valve until the
pressure is -0.6 to +0.0 barg.
8. Check the speed of the pump shaft rotation corresponds to the rated speed given on the drive motor nameplate
using a tachometer.
9. If operating with partial recirculation, check the inlet pressure of the pump until the design operating pressure
is achieved. Slowly close the seal liquid make-up valve until the design operating pressure can only just be
achieved with a stable seal liquid temperature; this is the optimum seal liquid make-up flow rate.
10.Leave the pumping system to operate for 30 minutes to allow operation to stabilise:
During this time check the pumping system for noise and vibration. Refer to Section 2.4 for the typical
continuous A-weighted emission sound pressure level and vibration velocity level. If there is excessive noise
or vibration, immediately shut down the pumping system and investigate the cause.
After this time check the pump drive end and non-drive end bearing housing top surface temperatures. If the
measured temperature exceeds 60 °C, immediately shut down the pumping system and investigate the
cause.
If installed, check the liquid level in the seal liquid reservoir as indicated on the level indicator.
3.6.8 Pumping system shut down
Note: On shut down, the pumping system is now ready for normal start, operating and stop sequences.
1. De-energise the pumping system starter.
2. Remove the temporary process inlet filter.
3. Leak test the vacuum system after removing the temporary process inlet filter. Seal any leaks found.
