Symptom Check Action
Liquid ring pump hard to turn
manually.
Are there deposits/rust inside the
liquid ring pump?
Contact the supplier or Edwards for
advice.
Is the drive/transmission system
damaged?
Inspect and re-align, repair or replace
as necessary.
Drive motor overload protection
shuts off pumping system.
Has the drive overloaded? Check the overload protector in
starter. Reset as necessary.
Is the back-pressure too high? Check process outlet pipework for
restrictions and correct as necessary.
Is the drive/transmission system
damaged?
Inspect and re-align, repair or replace
as necessary.
Is the pump damaged or in need of
repair?
Contact the supplier or Edwards for
advice.
High electrical current draw by
drive motor.
Is the electrical supply correct?
Check the electrical supply is as
specified on the drive motor name
plate and in the manufacturer's
instructions.
Are there deposits/rust inside the
liquid ring pump?
Contact the supplier or Edwards for
advice.
Is the back-pressure too high? Check process outlet pipework for
restrictions and correct as necessary.
Is there excessive seal liquid flowing
from the seal liquid reservoir
overflow?
Check process inlet pipework for
liquid traps. Drain and correct as
necessary.
Is the seal liquid flow too high? Reduce the flow rate by slowly closing
the seal liquid regulating valve.
Is the drive motor rotational speed
too high or rotating in the wrong
direction?
Check motor speed and direction of
rotation and correct as necessary:
Refer to Section 3.6.6.
Is the drive/transmission system
damaged?
Inspect and re-align, repair or replace
as necessary.
Liquid ring pump is noisy during
operation.
Is the pump operating under
cavitation conditions?
Check that the seal liquid supply is as
specified in Section 2: Refer to
Section 5.4.
Check for restrictions in the process
inlet pipelines.
If installed, check the heat exchanger
is not blocked.
Is the flow of seal liquid to the pump
too high?
Check that the seal water supply is as
specified in the bareshaft liquid ring
pump instructions listed in
Section 1.2.7. If necessary, reduce the
flow rate of the seal liquid into the
pump: Refer to Section 3.6.7.
Is the pump damaged or in need of
repair?
Contact the supplier or Edwards for
advice.
