Also, the discharge line might be blocked; unplug the pump before opening and clearing any obstructions. Check that the shut-off valve is slightly open. The discharge line might be too high or long; in this case, unplug the pump and reduce the height or length of the discharge line to a maximum of 11 feet. Finally, verify the check valve is correctly installed, with the flow arrow pointing away from the pump.
