The FUJIFILM instax SQUARE Link Smartphone Printer is a portable device designed to print instant photos from your smartphone. It utilizes INSTAX SQUARE instant film, sold separately, to produce physical prints of your digital images. The printer connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth® and is controlled through the free INSTAX SQUARE LINK App, available for both Android and iOS devices.
Function Description:
The primary function of the instax SQUARE Link is to print photos from a smartphone. Users can select images from their phone's gallery, edit them within the INSTAX SQUARE LINK App, and then send them to the printer. The app offers various editing options, including adding text or stickers, zooming/rotating, applying filters, and adjusting brightness. The printer ejects the developed photo automatically after a short transmission and printing delay. A unique feature is the ability to reprint the last printed image by holding the function button for 2 seconds, although this functionality is reset when the printer is turned off.
Beyond simple printing, the app introduces "AR Print" and "INSTAX Connect" features. AR Print allows users to enhance their photos with augmented reality designs, filters, text, and messages before printing, adding a creative dimension to the physical prints. The INSTAX Connect App Feature facilitates easy sharing of INSTAX SQUARE photos with others. The app also includes an "INSTAX Camera Mode," enabling users to take photos directly within the app, with options for flash, front/rear camera switching, a self-timer, and date stamping.
Usage Features:
To begin using the printer, users must first install the INSTAX SQUARE LINK App on their smartphone. The app guides users through the initial setup, including granting necessary permissions for media and location access, and reviewing the Terms of Use.
The printer is powered on or off by pressing and holding the Power button for approximately 1 second. An LED indicator on the Power button provides visual cues about the printer's status, such as charging, low battery, firmware updates, or print errors.
Connecting the printer to a smartphone is done via Bluetooth®. The app facilitates this connection, allowing users to pair their device with the printer. If multiple printers are detected, users can select the desired one from a list, identified by a device name found on the bottom of the printer.
Loading the INSTAX SQUARE instant film pack is a straightforward process. Users slide and hold the film door lock to open the film door, insert the film pack by aligning yellow marks, and then close the film door. A black film protective cover is automatically ejected upon closing the door. When a film pack is used up, users can open the film door, grasp the rectangular holes on the pack, and pull it out for proper disposal. It's crucial to use only FUJIFILM INSTAX SQUARE Instant Print Film, as other film types are incompatible and opening the film door before all exposures are used will expose and ruin the remaining film.
The printer is equipped with a built-in lithium-ion battery that is charged using the supplied USB Type-C cable connected to a USB AC adapter (not included). Charging status is indicated by the LED, which flashes white during charging and lights up solid white when charging is complete or not in progress. Charging can also occur when the printer is turned off, with the LED flashing green. The app can also display the charging status when connected.
Maintenance Features:
Proper care of the instax SQUARE Link printer ensures its longevity and optimal performance. Users are advised not to open the film door until all exposures on the film pack are used to prevent film exposure and spoilage. The printer is a precision instrument and should be protected from water, drops, sand, dust, and dirt. Cleaning should be done with a damp cloth, avoiding harsh cleaning products or solvents like bleach or alcohol. The film chamber and printer interior should be kept clean to prevent film damage.
The printer should not be exposed to excessive heat, such as direct sunlight, inside a hot car, or on the beach, nor should it be left in damp places. Moth repellent gases like naphthalene can affect both the printer and photo prints, so storage in an appropriate environment is recommended. The operating temperature range for the printer is 41°F to 104°F (5°C to 40°C).
The built-in battery is not removable and should not be subjected to heat, open flames, drops, or impacts, as this could lead to an explosion. Attempts to disassemble or repair the printer by unauthorized personnel are strongly discouraged and may result in injury or voiding the warranty. If the printer is dropped or damaged, or if it exhibits abnormal behavior (e.g., overheating, smoke, burnt smell), users should immediately unplug it, turn it off, and contact Fujifilm customer support.
Regarding film care, INSTAX SQUARE instant film should be stored in a cool place, away from extremely high temperatures. It should not be punctured, torn, or cut. Once a film pack is loaded, it should be used as soon as possible. If film has been stored in extreme temperatures, it should be brought to room temperature before use. Always check the expiration date on the film pack. Airport X-ray illumination should be avoided, and film/printer should be carried in carry-on luggage. Developed prints should be kept away from strong light and stored in a cool, dry place. The film contains a caustic paste, so puncturing or cutting it should be avoided, especially around children and animals. In case of contact with skin or eyes, immediate washing with plenty of water and medical attention are necessary.
For disposal, the printer contains a built-in lithium-ion battery and should be disposed of properly according to local regulations. Fujifilm provides specific contact information for proper disposal in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. The product's packaging indicates that it should not be treated as household waste but taken to an electrical and electronic equipment collection point for recycling.
