3.1 LAN Environment Notes
• The ETERNUS Disk storage system can be connected to a server via an existing LAN.
However, a decrease in LAN performance may be observed by prior users of said LAN.
• For the iSCSI LAN (used to transfer data), do not set multipath configuration with IP Network
Multipathing (IPMP).
• As with an FC-SAN, because of the large data flows (traffic volumes) the iSCSI LAN is
assumed to be a dedicated LAN separate from the business and management LANs, and
constructed with its own LAN switch.
• For IP network security reasons too, it is useful to separate the iSCSI LAN (for data transfers)
and management LAN (for administration) to prevent cross-access between them (use of
VLAN to separate the LAN segments is recommended).
• A configuration where multiple LAN ports of a single server are connected to the same
network may be restricted depending on the OS and/or driver specifications. For a multipath
connection, connect each path using different LAN segments by separating the VLAN and so
on.
