Chapter 3 Notes
3.1 LAN Environment Notes
The ETERNUS Disk storage system can be connected to a server via an existing LAN.
However, a decrease in LAN performance may be observed by prior users of said LAN.
For the iSCSI LAN (used to transfer data), do not set multipath configuration with IP Network
Multipathing (IPMP).
As with an FC-SAN, because of the large data flows (traffic volumes) the iSCSI LAN is
assumed to be a dedicated LAN separate from the business and management LANs, and
constructed with its own LAN switch.
For IP network security reasons too, it is useful to separate the iSCSI LAN (for data transfers)
and management LAN (for administration) to prevent cross-access between them (use of
VLAN to separate the LAN segments is recommended).
A configuration where multiple LAN ports of a single server are connected to the same
network may be restricted depending on the OS and/or driver specifications. For a multipath
connection, connect each path using different LAN segments by separating the VLAN and so
on.
