Check the network bandwidth from the host computer, comparing to a local-only backup if backing up over a network. Ensure the backup server has enough memory to handle the backup or restore bandwidth. Cleaning the tape drive may also help.

Any cartridge suspected of being defective or contaminated should not be reused in any drive.
