Preface
This manual briefly explains the operations that need to be performed by the user in order to use the
ETERNUS LT40 S2/LT60 S2 LTO Library.

Target Groups
This manual is written primarily for users with access to the entire range of the ETERNUS LT40 S2/LT60 S2 LTO
library functions, for system administrators and field engineering staff. Basic hardware knowledge is required.
Notational Conventions
The following notational conventions are used in this manual.
italics
Denote names of commands, system calls, functions, files,
procedures, programs etc. as well as menu options and
input/output fields from figures in the main body of text.
fixed-pitch font Indicates system output, such as error messages, messages,
notes, file excerpts and program examples.
fixed-pitch semi-bold font Denotes user input in examples.
1., 2., 3. ... Activities of the user.
Highlights additional information that should be noted to
assist understanding of the surrounding text passages.
Calls attention to a situation that can cause data loss.
Calls attention to a situation that is potentially lethal or
hazardous to people.
CAUTION
A discharge of static electricity can damage static-sensitive
devices or micro circuitry. Proper packaging and grounding
techniques are necessary precautions to prevent damage.
