UV Lamp Check
To verify the ultraviolet lamp (normal life equals 5000 hours) is working
properly, perform the following test:
1. Prepare a 5.0 mg/L benzotriazole standard solution by pipetting 10.0 mL of
Benzotriazole Standard Solution, 500-mg/L benzotriazole, into a 1-liter
volumetric flask. Dilute to volume.
2. Analyze according to the above procedure. If the result is significantly below
5 mg/L, replace the lamp.

Summary of Method
Benzotriazole or tolyltriazole, used in many applications as corrosion inhibitors
for copper and copper alloys, are determined by a proprietary catalytic
ultraviolet (UV) photolysis procedure requiring less than 10 minutes to perform.
Test results are measured at 425 nm.
