2. Use the TenSette
®
pipet to add 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 mL of standard to three 50-mL
samples, respectively.
3. Analyze each sample as described above. The iron concentration should
increase 0.1 mg/L for each 0.2 mL of 25-mg/L standard added.

Standard Solutions Method
Prepare a 1.0 mg/L iron working solution as follows:
1. Pipet 5.00 mL of iron standard solution, 100-mg/L Fe, into a 500-mL
volumetric flask.
2. Dilute to volume with deionized water. Prepare this solution daily. Analyze
the working solution according to the above procedure.

The FerroZine
®
Iron Reagent forms a purple colored complex with trace
amounts of iron in samples that are buffered to a pH of 3.5. This method is
applicable for determining trace levels of iron in chemical reagents and glycols
and can be used to analyze samples containing magnetite (black iron oxide) or
ferrites. The test results are measured at 562 nm.
