AIR FILTER
A dirty air filter will restrict air flow to the carburetor and cause poor engine performance.
Inspect the air filter each time the engine is operated. You will need to clean the air filter more
frequently if you operate the engine in very dusty areas.
CAUTION! A
Operating the engine without an air filter, or with a damaged air filter, will allow dirt
to enter the engine, causing rapid engine wear. This type of damage is not covered.
AIR FILTER INSPECTION AND CLEANING - PLEATED FILTER WITH PRE-FILTER
CAUTION! A
The air filter must be serviced (cleaned) after 25 hours normal working. Service more
frequently when operating the machine in extremely dusty areas.
1. Shut off the engine before performing any service on the machine. Wait till all moving parts
are completely stopped and disconnect the spark plug.
2. Release the air filter cover (fig. 33A).
3. Remove the air filter cover. Be careful to prevent dirt and debris from falling into the air
filter base.
4. Remove the pre-filter (fig. 34A) and the air filter (fig. 34B) from the air filter base.
5. Inspect the air filter elements. Clean dirty elements.
6. To loosen debris, gently tap the filter on a hard surface. Never try to brush the dirt off,
brushing will force dirt into the fibers. If the filter is excessively dirty, replace with a new
filter.
7. Wash the pre-filter in liquid detergent and water. Then allow it to thoroughly air dry. Do
not oil the pre-filter.
8. Install the filter and the pre-filter back.
9. Close the cover and secure it.
Note: I
Replace filter if frayed, torn, damaged or unable to be cleaned.
SPARK PLUG
For best results, replace the spark plug every 100 hours of use. Use only the recommended spark
plug which is the correct heat range for normal engine operating temperatures. To find actual
types of recommended spark plugs please contact an authorized service center.
CAUTION! A
If the engine has been running, the muffler and the spark plug will be very hot. Be
carefull not to touch this parts.
CAUTION! A
Incorrect spark plugs can cause engine damage.
