4.6.3 Maximum Chain Elongation Limit
Over time, a chain will elongate due to wear between the chain’s pins and bushings.
As the length increases, the chain will no longer mesh properly with the sprocket
teeth, causing sprocket wear and possible chain slippage.
For proper chain drive operation, the maximum amount of chain elongation is limited
to a 2% growth over its original (new) length.
