Starting a Digital UNIX Installation
To start a Digital UNIX installation, follow the steps in Table E–3.

The SRM console must be installed and running in order to perform a Digital
UNIX installation. If the AlphaBIOS console is running, refer to Chapter 3,
Configuring Your System, for instructions on loading the SRM firmware.

Step Action Result
1 At the SRM prompt, type:
>>>set boot_osflags ""
Clear the
boot_osflags
variable.
2 At the SRM prompt, type:
>>>
set auto_action halt
Halts the system at the console prompt each time
the system is turned on, crashes, or when the reset
button is pushed.
3 Insert the
Digital UNIX for AXP™
Systems
CD-ROM into the CD
drive.
CD-ROM drive is ready.
4 At the SRM prompt, type:
>>>show dev
List of devices displays:
dka0.0.0.6.0 DKA0 RZ26L 441A
dka400.4.0.6.0 DKA400 RRD43 3213
dva0.0.0.0.1 DVA0
5 From the SRM console, boot the
Digital UNIX CD-ROM.
>>>boot dka400
