Overview

The Hunter Pro-C is a residential and light commercial irrigation controller designed to manage watering schedules efficiently. This modular controller is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations, offering a range of features for flexible and precise irrigation management.

Function Description

The Pro-C controller's primary function is to automate irrigation by controlling the operation of sprinkler valves based on programmed schedules. It allows users to set specific watering times, durations, and days, ensuring that landscapes receive the appropriate amount of water. The controller supports conventional wiring for a range of stations and can be expanded with an EZ Decoder System for larger setups. It features a non-volatile memory, which means all programmed data is retained even during power outages, eliminating the need for a backup battery for program retention.

Usage Features

The Pro-C controller is designed for user-friendly operation with a central control dial that provides access to various programming functions.

  • System Control: The dial includes positions for "System Off" to halt all watering, "Run" for automatic operation, and "Manual" for one-time watering of a single station.
  • Date and Time Setting: Users can easily set the current date and time, which is crucial for accurate scheduling. The display guides the user through setting the year, month, day, hour, and minutes using simple plus and minus buttons.
  • Program Start Times: The controller supports up to four individual start times per program (A, B, or C). A single start time activates all stations sequentially within that program. Users can adjust start times in 15-minute increments. Programs can be turned off by setting all start times to "OFF."
  • Station Run Times: Users can set specific run times for each station, ranging from 1 minute to 6 hours. The controller also offers a "Seconds Mode" for more precise control, allowing run times to be set in 1-second intervals for up to 5 minutes.
  • Watering Schedule: The Pro-C offers flexible watering schedules, including a 7-day calendar, interval watering up to a 31-day interval, or true odd/even day programming.
    • Specific Days of the Week: Users can select individual days to water or cancel watering for specific days.
    • Odd/Even Days: This feature allows watering on numbered days of the month (e.g., 1st, 3rd, 5th for odd days; 2nd, 4th, 6th for even days).
    • Interval Watering: Users can set a consistent irrigation schedule based on a number of days between watering, with options to exclude specific non-water days.
  • Pump/Master Valve Operation: The controller allows users to enable or disable the pump or master valve for each station, providing flexibility for systems with these components.
  • Seasonal Adjustment: This feature enables global run time changes without reprogramming the entire controller. Users can adjust watering percentages from 5% to 300% to account for seasonal changes in plant water requirements.
  • One-Touch Manual Start and Advance: From the "Run" position, users can quickly activate a program to water manually. This feature defaults to program A but can be switched to B or C. Users can scroll through stations and adjust run times, making it useful for quick cycles or system inspections.
  • Programmable Off: Users can stop all programmed irrigation for a designated period, from 1 to 31 days. At the end of this period, the controller automatically resumes normal operation.
  • Sensor Integration: The Pro-C is compatible with Hunter Clik weather sensors and Solar Sync ET sensors.
    • Clik Weather Sensor: This sensor stops automatic watering when weather conditions dictate (e.g., rain). The controller displays "OFF" when the sensor deactivates watering. Users can temporarily bypass the sensor for up to 24 hours using a dedicated button.
    • Solar Sync ET Sensor: This advanced sensor calculates daily evapotranspiration rates and adjusts irrigation schedules based on local weather conditions, including automatic rain and freeze shutdown capabilities. The Solar Sync Sensor connects to a dedicated terminal on the controller.
  • Remote Control Compatibility: The controller is compatible with Hunter remote controls via a SmartPort Wiring Harness, allowing users to operate the system without being at the controller.
  • Hidden and Advanced Features: The Pro-C includes several advanced features accessible through specific button combinations:
    • Programmable Sensor Override: Allows individual stations to ignore sensor shutdowns.
    • Cycle and Soak: Sets maximum run time for a station and minimum wait time between cycles to prevent runoff.
    • Delay Between Stations: Inserts a delay between stations for slow valves or recharging tanks.
    • Hide Programs: Allows users to hide extra programs, simplifying the display.
    • Solar Sync Delay: Sets a number of days before the Solar Sync Sensor begins adjusting run times, useful for landscape establishment.
    • Clik Delay: Sets the number of days watering remains off after a sensor activation.
    • Total Run Time: Calculates and displays the total run time for a program start time.
    • Test Program: Runs all stations for a specified time for diagnostic purposes.
    • Easy Retrieve® Memory: Saves and restores all program information.
    • Total Reset: Erases all watering information.
    • Quick Check™ Technology: Checks all stations for wiring problems.
    • Run Program: Runs all stations in a selected program.

Maintenance Features

The Pro-C controller is designed for durability and ease of maintenance.

  • Modular Design: The controller is modular, allowing for easy expansion of station capacity by adding PCM modules. Modules are secured with a "Power Lock" feature, ensuring proper connection and power. The controller automatically recognizes the correct number of stations after modules are installed.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to help users diagnose and resolve common issues, such as wiring errors, sensor problems, and power supply issues. Error messages displayed on the screen (e.g., ERR with number, P ERR, SP ERR, "No AC") guide users to specific problems and solutions.
  • Internal Components: The controller uses an internal CR2032 lithium battery for the real-time clock, ensuring accurate timekeeping. For non-AC programming of the control panel, an optional 9V alkaline battery (not included) can be used.
  • NEMA 3R, IP44 Rated Cabinet: The outdoor model's cabinet is rated for outdoor use, providing protection against water and weather. However, connecting primary AC power for outdoor models should be done by a licensed electrician to ensure safety and compliance with local codes.
