The following table compares tape subsystems that can attach to the AS/400 system. It
indicates whether the attachment IOP supports Hardware Data Compression (HDC) and
whether the tape subsystem controller supports a compaction algorithm, either Improved
Data Recording Capability (IDRC) or Lempel Ziv 1 (LZ1). These algorithms enable more data
to be written to tape up to the maximum shown.
