This
clearance
insures
free
operation
of
the
armature.
With
no
clearance
and
oil
on
the
two
surfaces
the
arm-
ature
would
have
a
sluggish
operation.
Excessive
clear-
ance
may
cause
slow
operation
due
to
the
relationship
between
the
magnetic
field
and
armature.
