CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL
Because this process should be completed while the engine is cool (in order
to avoid burns), it is recommended that this check be completed prior to
starting the engine. If checked during an outing, allow the engine to cool.
Be very careful to avoid burns from contact with hot engine parts.
1. Ensure the engine is OFF and the engine safety starting switch is
disconnected. Leave the throttle/shi control lever in neutral. Open the
engine compartment. Locate the heat exchanger atop the engine.
2. For MV10: Check the level on the overow tank located on the front
of the engine. e level should be approximately halfway full. If the
level is below that, add 5-year extended warranty antifreeze. Use
premixed 50/50 or use a 50/50 mix of extended warranty antifreeze and
distilled water. See Fluid Specications on page 11-1 for engine coolant
capacity.
For MV8-570: Remove the cap and check the level. Verify that the
uid is visible from the top of the heat exchanger. (When the engine
heats, the water will expand; that is the reason the tank should not be
full when the engine is cold.) If the level is at or below that, add 5-year
extended warranty antifreeze. Use premixed 50/50 or use a 50/50
mix of extended warranty antifreeze and distilled water. See Fluid
Specications on page 11-1 for engine coolant capacity.
3. If the tank was completely or nearly empty, see your
authorized Ilmor High-Performance Marine service center for
immediate assistance as the engine cooling system will likely require
purging. is function should be completed only by a trained Ilmor
service technician.
NOTICE: Always maintain the correct coolant level. Failure to maintain
coolant at the proper level will cause potentially serious engine damage.
The warranty does not cover engine damage due to overheating or any
other cause associated with improper coolant levels.
