Getting Started
Checking the Shipment
1) Perform the following steps to check that the contents of the shipment are complete:
2) Wear an anti-static wrist strap, and work in an electrostatic discharge (ESD) controlled area.
3) Check that the shipment contains the following items:
• MAP EDFA Cassette User’s Manual
• The MAP EDFA cassette is packaged separate from the MAP chassis.
NOTE: Inspect the unit for structural damage that can occur during shipping.
4) If the contents are incomplete or damaged, immediately inform JDS Uniphase and, if
necessary, return the unit as outlined in the Service section.
5) Keep the packaging.
Installing the MAP EDFA Cassette
MAP allows for hot-swapping of cassettes, which means you can install or remove cassettes
either before or after power-up. The MAP controller detects the presence and determines the
type of cassette being added or removed without affecting communication with other cassettes.
Perform the following steps to install a cassette into the MAP chassis:
1. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the two screws and remove the blanking plate from the
chassis.
2. Slide the cassette into the chassis slot until it is firmly seated. MAP automatically detects
the presence of cassettes.
3. Using a screwdriver, screw in the two screws to secure the cassette.
Caution
• If you remove a cassette you must replace the blanking plate on the MAP
chassis to maintain proper airflow within the unit.
Caution
• The cassette screws must both be securely mounted to ensure proper
grounding.
