Operating the Amplifier
Warning
Use of protective eyewear is recommended.
To ensure optimum performance, allow the amplifier to warm up for a minimum of one hour.
1. Ensure that the amplifier is inactive (LED on front panel should NOT be illuminated).
2. Ensure that intended input and output jumpers have connectors corresponding to EDFA.
3. Raise the protective cover of the output connector port to expose the output connector.
Remove the protective optical connector cap. Clean jumper cable intended for output and
attach it to output connector.
4. Clean the jumper intended for input (source) and connect to the input connector.
5. Use keypad on controller cassette or remote interface to set active mode. The Active LED
light and the laser start emitting the amplified signal.
User Interface
In addition to the manual control provided by the keypad on the control cassette, remote control
can be established using the RS232 or GPIB interface. See Controls and Communication
section for more details.
