Electrical Precautions
Takethefollowingprecautionstoreducetheriskofelectricshock,reor
explosionresultinginseriousinjuryordeath.
● Highlydangerouselectricalvoltagesareusedinthissystem.Carefullyrefertothewiringdiagram
andtheseinstructionswhenwiring.Improperconnectionsandinadequategroundingcancause
seriousinjuryordeath.
● Performallelectricalworkinstrictaccordancewiththismanualandalltherelevantregulatory
standards.
● Beforeservicing,openandtagalldisconnectswitches.Neverassumeelectricalpoweris
disconnected.Checkwithmeterandequipment.
● Onlyuseelectricalprotectionequipmentandtoolssuitedforthisinstallation.
● Insulateawiredcontrolleragainstmoistureandtemperatureextremes.
● Usespeciedcablesbetweenunits.
● Thenewairconditionermaynotfunctionnormallyinthefollowinginstances:
◦ Ifelectricalpowerforthenewairconditionerissuppliedfromthesametransformerasthe
externalequipment*referredtobelow.
◦ Ifthepowersupplycablesforthisexternalequipment*andthenewairconditionerunitare
locatedincloseproximitytoeachother.
externalequipment*:(Example):Alift,containercrane,rectierforelectricrailway,inverter
powerdevice,arcfurnace,electricfurnace,large-sizedinductionmotorandlarge-sized
switch.
Regardingthecasesmentionedabove,surgevoltagemaybeinductedintothepowersupply
cablesforthepackagedairconditionerduetoarapidchangeinpowerconsumptionofthedevice
andanactivationofaswitch.
Checkeldregulationsandstandardsbeforeperformingelectricalworkinordertoprotectthe
powersupplyforthenewairconditionerunit.
● CommunicationcablingshallbeaminimumofAWG18(0.82mm
2
),2-Conductor,StrandedCopper.
ShieldedcablemustbeconsideredforapplicationsandroutinginareasofhighEMIandother
sourcesofpotentiallyexcessiveelectricalnoisetoreducethepotentialforcommunicationerrors.
Whenshieldedcablingisapplied,properbondingandterminationofthecableshieldisrequired
asperJohnsonControlsguidelines.Plenumandriserratingsforcommunicationcablesmustbe
consideredperapplicationandlocalcoderequirements.
● Thepolarityoftheinputterminalsisimportant,sobesuretomatchthepolaritywhenusingcontacts
thathavepolarity.
● Useanexclusivepowersupplyfortheairconditionerattheunit’sratedvoltage.
● Highlydangerouselectricalvoltagesmaybeusedinthissystem.Carefullyrefertothewiringdiagram
andtheseinstructionswhenwiring.Improperconnectionsandinadequategroundingcancause
seriousinjuryordeath.
● Beforeinstallingthecontrollerorremotedevices,ensurethattheindoorandoutdoorunitoperation
hasbeenstopped.Further,besuretowaitatleastveminutesbeforeturningoffthemainpower
switchtotheindoororoutdoorunits.Otherwise,waterleakageorelectricalbreakdownmayresult.
● DonotopentheservicecoveroraccesspaneltotheindoororoutdoorunitswithoutturningOFFthe
mainpowersupply.Beforeconnectingorservicingthecontrollerorcablestoindoororoutdoorunits,
openandtagalldisconnectswitches.Neverassumeelectricalpowerisdisconnected.Checkwitha
meterandequipment.
● ThisequipmentcanbeinstalledwithaGroundFaultCircuitBreaker(GFCI),whichisarecognized
measureforaddedprotectiontoaproperlygroundedunit.Installappropriatesizedbreakers/fuses
/overcurrentprotectionswitches,andwiringinaccordancewithlocal,stateandNECcodesand
requirements.Theequipmentinstallerisresponsibleforunderstandingandabidingbyapplicable
codesandrequirements.
