The M500XJ SLC Isolator Module is used to protect critical elements of
the SLC from faults on other branches or sections of the SLC. The
M500XJ continuously monitors the circuit connected to terminals 3 (-) and
4 (+). Upon power-up, an integral relay is latched on. The M500XJ
periodically pulses the coil of this relay. A short circuit on the SLC resets
the relay. The M500XJ sees this short and disconnects the faulted branch
by opening the positive side of the SLC (Terminal 4). This effectively
isolates the faulted branch from the remainder of the SLC. Once the fault
is removed, the M500XJ automatically reapplies power to the SLC branch.
Figure 16 illustrates the use of an M500XJ on a two-wire SLC meeting
NFPA Style 4 requirements. Figure 12 shows a four-wire SLC meeting
NFPA Style 7 requirements.
Note: During a fault condition, the IFC-200 registers a trouble condition
for each zone mapped to the isolated SLC branch.

The M500MJ Monitor Module is an addressable module that monitors
normally open contact, shorting-type alarm initiating devices. It includes
a magnetic test switch located near the center front of the module. The
supervised M500MJ circuit can be wired as an NFPA Style B or Style D
Initiating Device Circuit (IDC), and there is no limit to the number of
contact-type devices installed on a monitor module circuit. Refer to
Figures 18 and 19 for M500MJ wiring diagrams.
The M500MJ occupies one module address on the SLC.
1. Connect the SLC to M500MJ terminals 1 (-) and 2 (+).
2. Use the rotary switches on the M500MJ to set the module to the
required SLC address.
