1. Ensure that you understand how to prevent electrostac discharge (ESD) damage. See "Prevenon of
Electrostac Discharge Damage" on page 194.
2. Verify that the site meets the requirements described in "QFX5200 Site Preparaon Checklist" on
page 57.
3. Place the rack in its permanent locaon, allowing adequate clearance for airow and maintenance,
and secure it to the building structure.
4. Read "General Site Guidelines" on page 67, with parcular aenon to "QFX5200 Installaon Safety
Guidelines" on page 96.
5. Remove the switch from the shipping carton (see "Unpacking a QFX5200" on page 97).
6. Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available to mount the switch in a rack:
• ESD grounding strap (not provided).
• Blades, rails, or brackets (provided).
• For four-post installaons:
• One pair of rear mounng blades. These mounng blades support the rear of the chassis
and must be installed (provided).
• One pair of front mounng rails. The mounng blades slide into the mounng rails to
support the switch (provided).
• Screws to secure the mounng rails to the chassis (provided).
• Twelve screws for QFX5200-32C or QFX5200-32C-L
• Twenty screws for QFX5200-48Y
• Eight screws to secure the chassis and rear installaon blades to the rack (not provided).
• Appropriate screwdriver for the mounng screws (not provided).
• Two power cords with plugs appropriate to your geographical locaon (provided).
• RJ-45 cable and RJ-45 to DB-9 serial port adapter (provided).
• Management host, such as a PC laptop, with a serial port (not provided).
Oponal equipment: Grounding cable kit with bracket, lug, and three nuts with integrated washers.
WARNING: A QFX5200 switch must be supported at all four corners. Mounng the
chassis using only the front brackets will damage the chassis and can result in serious
bodily injury.
