Do you have a question about the Kemper VacuFil Compact and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The VacuFil Compact is a sophisticated welding fume filter unit designed to extract and filter welding fumes generated during metallic material welding processes, achieving a filter efficiency of over 99%. The cleaned, contaminated air is then recirculated back into the workspace. Alternatively, it can be vented outdoors through an optional hose or ducting system. This product is compatible with suitable welding fume extraction torches or funnel nozzles.

Functional Description:

The VacuFil Compact operates on a 1-stage filter method. It is available in two main variants: a storage filter without cleaning functionality and a cleanable filter with an integrated rotary separator for cleaning. The unit is designed for ease of use and maintenance, featuring a push handle for mobility and an optional tool tray with a cup holder for convenience.

Usage Features:

The VacuFil Compact is operated via a rotary switch and a digital LED display on the front panel.

  • USB charging socket: For charging commercially available USB devices.
  • Connection socket for start/stop sensor: For optional automatic start/stop functionality.
  • Signal horn: Alerts the user when extraction capacity drops below a minimum value, indicating filter saturation or blockages.
  • LED signal lamp: Indicates the current operating status (Green for trouble-free, White for menu/settings, Magenta for warnings, Red for faults).
  • Digital LED display: Shows settings, parameters, performance values, notes, and faults. Displays "---" when switched off.
  • Rotary switch: Used to switch the product on/off, select menu items, enter values, and confirm/acknowledge.
  • Menu – Queries and settings: Accessed by pressing the rotary switch for approximately 3 seconds. Allows adjustment of various parameters such as delay time for start/stop, operating hours, hours until service, differential pressure of the filter, extraction volume measurement, torch pressure, number of cleaning processes, extraction volume control status, displayed units (metric/US), motor frequency/speed, motor current, motor power, internal compressor temperature, CPU temperature, and extraction volume limitation.
  • Extraction capacity regulation: The standard product has manual regulation. An optional automatic regulation, activated by a code, continuously monitors and adjusts the compressor speed to maintain the set extraction capacity.
  • Activation codes: Allow activation of advanced functions. Incorrect entries are signaled by flashing red LED, and multiple incorrect entries can temporarily block code entry.
  • Product ID display: Pressing the rotary switch for more than 5 seconds displays the three-digit product ID, useful for activation codes.
  • Automatic start/stop: When the optional start/stop module is connected, the product automatically switches to start/stop mode (green LED flashes). It starts with a welding process and switches off after an adjustable run-on time (preset to 30 seconds).
  • Cleaning (for products with filter cleaning): When the filter cartridge reaches a certain saturation, "CLE" appears on the LED display. Manual cleaning is initiated by pressing the rotary switch for 3 seconds until "SFC" appears, then briefly pressing it to access cleaning settings, and turning it right to start cleaning (value changes from 0 to 1). The process takes about 15 seconds, with the time displayed on the LED. Turning the rotary switch left during cleaning stops the process.

Maintenance Features:

Maintenance and repair work must be performed by specially trained personnel, adhering to safety instructions and using original spare parts.

  • Care: Monthly cleaning of all product surfaces. Exterior surfaces can be cleaned with an industrial vacuum cleaner (dust classification H) or a wet cloth. Compressed air should not be used for cleaning to avoid releasing dust particles.
  • Dust collection container: The fill level must be checked monthly and replaced when approximately 2/3 full. The product must be switched off before checking or changing the container. Replacement involves loosening knurled screws, removing the maintenance cover, carefully removing the container into a disposal bag without stirring dust, sealing the bag, and inserting a new container.
  • Filter mat replacement (motor cooling): The filter mat for fan cooling should be replaced monthly. This involves switching off the product, detaching the magnetic vent grille, removing and disposing of the contaminated filter mat, inserting a new one, and reattaching the vent.
  • Main filter change: The lifespan of filter inserts depends on the type and amount of deposited particles. A filter change is required when extraction capacity decreases due to dust accumulation, even with automatic cleaning. The process involves switching off the product, disconnecting from power, optionally changing the dust collection container beforehand, opening the maintenance cover by folding down clamp fasteners, tilting the product to access the filter, removing the hex bolt, sealing washer, and serrated lock washer, carefully placing a disposal bag over the contaminated filter cartridge, removing the bag with the cartridge, sealing it, and inserting a new filter cartridge. Special attention must be paid to the main filter's seal, as an undamaged seal is crucial for high filter efficiency. Cleaning filter inserts is not permitted as it can damage the filter and release hazardous substances.
  • Troubleshooting: The digital LED display shows error codes (product switches off, red LED) and warning codes (product continues to run, magenta LED, warning tone after 5 minutes). Error codes require immediate action, while warnings can be temporarily hidden. Common issues include no mains voltage, start/stop sensor issues, draughts, incorrect extraction capacity, saturated or damaged filter inserts, clogged welding burner, no compressed air supply, and high component temperatures. Overload protection automatically reduces extraction capacity if vacuum or temperature thresholds are exceeded. For unresolved issues, contact the manufacturer's service department.
  • Emergency measures: In case of fire, disconnect power and compressed air (if present), use a dry powder extinguisher, and notify the local fire brigade. Do not open maintenance doors or touch the product without protective gloves due to burn risk.
  • Disposal: Plastics, metals, and filter elements must be sorted and disposed of according to legal requirements by authorized companies. Skin contact with welding fumes during disassembly must be avoided by wearing protective clothing, gloves, and a blower respirator system.
