Optimize
Phase Noise
This softkey is valid only when span fall in the
range of 100 Hz and 100 kHz. After enabling this
softkey, the 1st LO Loop filter bandwidth will be
changed from approx. 5 kHz to 120- 150 kHz
automatically, which optimizes the phase noise close
in to the carrier. For more details on how to
measure the phase noise of a signal, refer to
“Measuring Phase Noise” on page 56.

NOTE
Optimize Phase noise (On) will worsen phase noise accuracy far away
from the carrier. When testing phase noise far away from the carrier,
select Optimize Phase noise (Off).
Marker Noise Toggles the Marker Noise function between On and
Off. When Marker Noise is set to On, the display
Reads out the average noise level, referenced to a 1
Hz noise power bandwidth. If no marker is present,
a marker appears at the center of the display. When
Marker Noise is enabled in resolution bandwidths of
1 kHz and above, the auto coupled detector selection
is set to Average and the Avg Type is set to Power
because the trade- off between sweep time and
variance of the result is best with power Average
detection. However, the Marker Noise function
generates appropriately corrected values for all
supported detector modes. If the marker delta
function is on and the noise marker is activated and
moved to measure the noise floor, the marker
readout will display the signal- to- noise ratio.
NOTE
You can use Delta and Marker Noise to indicate noise level relative to
sinusoidal signal (signal to noise). Activate the delta marker before
pressing Marker Noise or the reference marker units may be
incorrect.
