Guard
To perform low current measurement, it is important to enclose the OUTPUT+ and
SENSE+ lines with the potential of the GUARD terminal as far as possible. This is
illustrated in Figure 2-11. Use coaxial cables for such connections to improve the
shielding.
The potential of the GUARD terminal is the same as the OUTPUT+ and SENSE+
terminal voltage.
By using GUARD, there is no potential difference between the OUTPUT+ and
SENSE+ lines and the GUARD line. Therefore, there will not be any leakage
current flowing from either the OUTPUT+ and SENSE+ lines. The leakage current
from the GUARD does not affect the measurement results because it does not
flow into the I
meter.
