Fuel Solenoid
The fuel solenoid serves to pull the injector pump lever
to the “fuel on” position when energized. The fuel
solenoid is spring loaded to return the injector pump
lever to the “fuel off” position when de-energized.
The 15/20CCO models use a three-lead fuel solenoid.
This solenoid has a white lead marked “P,” which
energizes the “pull” coil only during cranking. During
operation, the red lead marked “6” on single-phase sets
or “14” on three-phase sets energizes the “hold” coil and
the black lead marked “N” is the common ground.
Current (amps) and resistance readings are shown in
Figure 7-23. Resistance readings can be taken to
determine if the solenoid windings are open or shorted.
These tests must be made with fuel solenoid
disconnected from engine wiring harness. See
Figure 7-24 for fuel solenoid location.
Fuel Solenoid Reading
“pull” current 31 amps
“hold” current 0.8 amps
Plunger “pull” resistance 0.387 ohms
Plunger “hold” resistance 14.94 ohms
