This document describes the La Crosse Technology Wi-Fi Wind + Weather Station, Model Number V50, a comprehensive device designed to monitor and display various weather conditions, both locally and through a connected app.
The La Crosse Technology V50 is a Wi-Fi enabled weather station that provides real-time and historical data for wind, temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure. It features a color LCD display for local viewing and can connect to the La Crosse View app for remote monitoring and enhanced forecast data. The station receives data from a Breeze Pro Sensor, which measures wind speed, wind direction, outdoor temperature, and outdoor humidity. Additional add-on sensors for rain and other temperature/humidity readings can also be integrated. When connected to Wi-Fi, the station leverages AccuWeather for enhanced forecast information, including daily and hourly forecasts and chance of precipitation. Without Wi-Fi, it provides a standalone forecast based on barometric pressure changes. The device also includes alert functions for wind speed and offers historical records for various weather parameters.
The initial setup involves installing 3 “AA” batteries into the Breeze Pro Sensor and plugging in the 5V Power Adapter to the station, then removing the insulation tab from the station's battery compartment. Sensor data may take up to 10 minutes to appear on screen.
The station can function as a standalone unit, but connecting to the La Crosse View app (available on App Store and Google Play Store) unlocks advanced features. Users can connect by following initial app instructions or manually adding the display via the Devices tab. The app allows remote monitoring, setting alerts, and accessing enhanced forecast data.
Settings can be adjusted by holding the SET button. Options include language, beep on/off, time format, time, date, calendar order, temperature units (Fahrenheit/Celsius), pressure units, pressure number setting, wind speed units (MPH/KMH), and wind direction (letters/degrees). The time and date automatically update via Wi-Fi when connected.
The LIGHT button adjusts backlight intensity (4 levels + off). Auto-Dim settings allow programming the display to dim automatically during preselected times, indicated by the AUTO DIM icon.
The display shows current wind speed, top wind speed (past 31 seconds), prevailing wind direction (past hour), and a wind speed trend indicator (past 60 minutes). A compass rose with animated arrows indicates cardinal wind direction. A wind speed alert can be set, triggering a beep and flashing icon when the armed value is reached. Wind speed history records (past 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, 1 year) are accessible via the WIND button.
The station displays outdoor and indoor temperature and humidity, as well as "Feels Like" temperature (heat index or wind chill). Forecasted highs and lows from AccuWeather are available when connected to Wi-Fi; otherwise, outdoor history records are shown. History records for indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity are accessible via the TEMP button.
The forecast section features seasonal trees that change with the season. When connected to Wi-Fi, the station receives enhanced forecast icons, chance of precipitation, and future forecast information powered by AccuWeather. Without Wi-Fi, it uses barometric pressure changes for a basic 12-hour forecast. DAILY and HOURLY buttons on the side of the station allow viewing of daily (7 days) and hourly (12 hours) forecasts when connected to Wi-Fi.
The station displays relative pressure from its internal barometer. It self-calibrates over 10 days, or users can manually set the local pressure value. Arrows indicate pressure tendency (rising/falling).
The station supports up to 4 add-on sensors, including additional temperature/humidity sensors (LTV-TH2) and rain sensors (LTV-R3). Adding sensors involves holding the EXTRA button until the sensor reception indicator animates, installing batteries in the new sensor, and pressing its TX button (if available) to force transmission. The sensor's data will then appear on the display and in the La Crosse View app.
The Breeze Pro Sensor requires 3 “AA” batteries. A low battery icon appears on the display when replacement is needed. The station itself uses a CR2032 coin cell battery for backup.
Individual temperature and humidity history values can be reset by viewing the desired value with the TEMP button and then holding the MINUS button until dashes appear. Wind speed history can be reset similarly by viewing the record with the WIND button and holding MINUS.
If experiencing issues, a factory reset can be performed by pressing and holding the WIND ALERTS and LIGHT buttons simultaneously until the display beeps.
Users are encouraged to consider the environment when disposing of the product. Information on donation centers and electronic recycling programs is provided.
