Solution:Whenanyserial-basedconnectionisestablished,aninactivitytimerstarts.Ifnoapplication
openstheport,theconnectionisendedautomatically.Thisisanormalcharacteristicoftheserial-based
connectionandisnotadefect.IfyouneedtheBluetoothserialport,justreconnectit.
•Problem:PIMSynchronizationfailedwithanerrormessage“TheSynchronizationwithxxx(Bluetooth
devicename)failed.PIM(PersonalInformationManager)Interfacefailed.”
Solution:Startamailapplication,andsetupyoure-mailaccount.OR,modifytheBluetoothconguration
soasnottosynchronizee-mailitems,asfollows:
1.Double-clickMyBluetoothPlaces.
2.ClickBluetooth,andselectBluetoothSetupWizard.
3.SelectIwanttoconguretheBluetoothservicesthatthiscomputerwillprovidetoremote
devices.Then,clickNext.
4.SelectPIMSynchronization,andclickCongure.
5.SelectDoNotSynchronizeinthee-mailsynchronizationselection,andclickOK.
6.ClickFinishtoclosetheBluetoothServiceSelectionwindow.
•Problem:ThinkPadBluetoothwithEnhancedDataRateSoftwaredoesnotfunction.
Solution:Dothefollowing:
1.TurnonBluetoothbypressingF9.
2.ClickStart➙ControlPanel.
3.ClickthePerformanceandMaintenanceicon.
4.ClicktheSystemicon.
5.ClicktheHardwaretab.
6.ClicktheDeviceManagerbutton.TheDeviceManagerwindowopens.
7.Checkwhetherthewords“BluetoothDevice”appearinthedevicelistinginthewindow.
Ifthewords“BluetoothRadio”appearinthedevicelisting,theMicrosoftBluetoothsoftwareisinstalled
onyourcomputer.IfyouwanttouseThinkPadBluetoothwithEnhancedDataRateSoftware,youhaveto
installitandthenreplacetheBluetoothdriver.Formoreinformation,see“UsingBluetooth”onpage42.
•Problem:WhilelookingattheClassicViewoftheControlPanel,youseetwoBluetoothiconsinthe
ControlPanel.
Solution:IfyouhaveinstalledtheMicrosoftBluetoothsoftwarebefore,andyouareusingThinkPad
BluetoothwithEnhancedDataRateSoftware,youmayndtwoBluetoothiconsintheControlPanel.One
istheBluetoothCongurationiconforThinkPadBluetoothwithEnhancedDataRateSoftware,andthe
otheristheBluetoothDevicesiconfortheMicrosoftBluetoothsoftware.
•Problem:SounddoesnotcomefromtheBluetoothheadset/headphonebutcomesfromthelocal
speakereventhoughtheheadset/headphoneisconnectedusingHeadsetproleorAVprole.
Solution:Dothefollowing:
1.Exittheapplicationthatusesthesounddevice(forexample,WindowsMediaPlayer).
2.OpentheControlPanelbyclickingStart➙ControlPanel.
3.Double-clickSoundsandAudioDevicestoopentheSoundsandAudioDevicesPropertieswindow.
4.SelecttheAudiotab.
5.IfyouareusingHeadsetprole,selectBluetoothAudioforbothSoundplaybackandSound
recording.IfyouareusingAVprole,selectBluetoothHighQualityAudioforbothSoundplayback
andSoundrecording.
6.ClickOKtoclosetheSoundsandAudioDevicesPropertieswindow.
