Whileitisimportanttoprotectles,data,andsettingsthatareontheharddiskdriveorsolidstatedrive,

youalsomightneedtoinstallanewoperatingsystem,installnewdevicedrivers,updateyoursystemUEFI

BIOS,orrecoverpreinstalledsoftware.Thisinformationwillhelpyouhandleyourcomputerwithproper

careandkeepitintopworkingshape.

Installinganewoperatingsystem

Ifyouinstallanewoperatingsystemonyourcomputer,youneedtoinstallthesupplementlesand

ThinkPaddevicedriversforitatthesametime.

•IfyouinstallanewWindows7operatingsystem,thenecessarylesarelocatedinthefollowingdirectories

onyoursolidstate-driveorharddiskdrive:

–ThesupplementlesfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXESdirectory.

–ThedevicedriversfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERSdirectory.

–ThepreloadedsoftwareapplicationsareintheC:\SWTOOLS\APPSdirectory.

Note:Ifyoucannotndthesupplementles,thedevicedrivers,andapplicationsoftwareyouneedon

yourharddiskdrive,orifyouwanttoreceiveupdatesandthelatestinformationaboutthem,goto:

Note:Theprocessofinstallinganewoperatingsystemdeletesallthedataonyourharddiskdrive,including

backupsorimagesthatwerestoredinahiddenfolderbyuseofarecoveryprogram.

Beforeyoubegin

Note:IfyourcomputerisequippedwithbothaharddiskdriveandanmSATAsolid-statedrive,youare

notrecommendedtousethemSATAsolidstatedriveasabootabledevice.ThemSATAsolidstatedriveis

designedanddevelopedfor“cache”functionpurposeonly.IfyouusethemSATAsolidstatedriveasa

bootabledevice,itsreliabilityisnotguaranteed.

Beforeyouinstalltheoperatingsystem,dothefollowing:

•IfyouaregoingtoinstallanewWindows7operatingsystem,copyallthesubdirectoriesandlesinthe

C:\SWTOOLSdirectorytoaremovablestoragedevice,toavoidlosinglesduringtheinstallation.
