Working under load
Taking up load
DANGER
When stepping onto the forks when lifted there is an
increased risk of falling and crushing.
For this reason it is not permitted to step onto the
fork arms when lifted without a protective cage .
DANGER
Loads should be arranged so that they do not pro-
ject beyond the edge of the forklift truck loading
surface and cannot slip, topple over or fall off .
If necessary, use a load guard (special equipment).
DANGER
When a load is raised, it is not permitted to stand
beneath suspended cargo.
Forklift trucks should only be driven with the load
lowered and the lift mast tilted back.

¾ Approach the load to be taken up carefully
and as accurately as possible.
¾ Position the lift mast so it is vertical.
¾ Lift or lower the fork carriage to the neces-
sary height.
¾ Carefully centre the fork carriage and move
into the load to be taken up, where possible
so the load touches the fork back, taking
account of adjacent loads.
¾ Lift fork carriage until the load is no longer in
contact with the supporting surface.
¾ Check load/overload indicators (special
equipment) on indicator unit.
DANGER
If the load/overload indicator lights up red on lifting
¾ set down load immediately.
¾ Check permissible weight of load according to
load diagram.
¾ Back the forklift truck away to release the
load.
¾ Tilt the lift mast backwards.
