Full Height Cross Member Requirements in the Axle Area
13.1 A full height XM is no shorter than ¾" less than the main rail height. It needs to be a RAXM, XMC, XMZ
and bottom flange must be full length.
13.2 Non toy hauler travel trailers require: 1 full height cross member in the axle area.
13.3 Travel trailers with spread axles (34" axle hanger spacing) require either: 2 full height cross members
in the axle area (one being within 6" of rear hanger) OR 1 full height cross member plus a crush tube.
13.4 Non toy hauler fifth wheels require: 2 full height cross members in the axle area.
13.5 All TT toy hauler frames require: 3 full height cross members in the axle area, unless using a ≥ 2x2
crush tube, then 2 full height cross members can be used.
13.6 All 5th wheel toy hauler frames require: 3 full height cross members in the axle area.
13.7 All tri-axle units require: 3 full height cross members in the axle area.
13.8 All units with a GVWR greater than 18K require: 3 full height cross members in the axle area.
13.9 Full height XMs in the axle area need to have a minimum of 18" spacing between them.
13.10 Frames with a torsion axle pod set up require the following full height XMs:
Minimum of 1 full height axle area cross member for fifth wheel
min. of 2 for toy haulers.
