INTRODUCTION
OWNER/OPERATOR
RESPONSIBILITIES
Boating is an enjoyable and relaxing leisure time activity.
But responsibility is also a part of boating. You are
responsible for the following:
• Registering your boat with state authorities
• Providing adequate insurance
• Obeying the “Rules of the Road”
• Maintaining your boat and its equipment
• Acquiring and maintaining safety equipment
• Safety training of passengers and crew
• Understanding the operation of boat systems
and equipment
• Making seaworthiness/operational inspections
• Operating your boat safely
• Being aware of and understanding all safety
considerations related to boat operation
• Avoiding the use of alcohol and drugs
• Complying with environmental regulations
• Filing accident reports, if necessary
Lund recommends that all boaters take safe boating
courses. We also believe that boaters have one more
major responsibility—the environment. While you’re out on
the water, keep in mind the future of our waterways and
the marine life that makes them its home. Do everything
you can to preserve the natural habitats we still have.
Keep them free of garbage and debris. Preserving our
waterways and habitats now can help assure the pleasure
of boating for others for years to come.
