SAFETY GEAR AND EQUIPMENT
As the owner/operator of the boat, you are responsible for
supplying all required safety equipment. Check state and
local regulations and call the U.S. Coast Guard Boating
Safety Hotline at 1-800-368-5647 for information about
required safety equipment. You should also consider
supplying additional equipment recommended for your
safety and that of your passengers. A list of this equipment
appears later in this chapter.
Required Gear and Equipment
Most safety equipment required by federal regulations is
provided as standard equipment on your boat. However,
you are responsible for obtaining required safety
equipment approved by the U.S. Coast Guard if it is not
provided. Minimum requirements include the following:
• Personal Flotation Devices (PFD)
• Sound Signaling Device
• Fire Extinguisher
• Visual Distress Signal
• Navigation Lights
NOTE: Requirements may be stricter in some states.
