Telephony The science of translating sound into electrical signals, transmitting
them, and then converting them back into sound.
Transmission Control
Protocol/Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP)
A suite of communications protocols developed by the Department of
Defense in the 1970s that connects hosts on the Internet and provides
the standards for transmitting data over networks.
Trivial File Transfer
Protocol (TFTP)
Allows for transferring files (such as software upgrades) from a remote
device.
Voice Over IP (VoIP) The technology used to transmit voice conversations over a data
network using the Internet Protocol. Such data network may be the
Internet or a corporate Intranet.
Wide Area Network
(WAN)
A computer network where the computers are not geographically close
and are linked by telephone lines or radio waves.
