c. Connecting the Jumper
Cables
Before jump starting, make sure to
correctly identify the positive (+)
and negative (-) terminals to avoid
reverse polar connections.
CAUTION
To jump start the vehicle, follow these
steps:
Follow these steps to connect the
jumper cables correctly and make
sure to follow this sequence as shown
in the illustration.

1. First, attach one end of the jumper
cable to the red, positive (+)
jumper terminal of your vehicle (1).
2. Then, connect the other end of this
jumper cable to the red, positive
(+) battery/jumper terminal of the
assisting vehicle (2).
3. Next, take the second jumper
cable and attach it to the black,
negative (-) battery / jumper
terminal of the assisting vehicle
(3).
4. Finally, connect the other end of
this second jumper cable to the
black, negative (-) chassis ground
of your vehicle (4).
Ensure the jumper cables only
touch the correct battery or jumper
terminals and the proper ground.
Avoid leaning over the battery
while making connections.
CAUTION
5. After connecting, follow the
starting procedure to get the
vehicle into the "READY" state and
start it.
6. Keep the vehicle in the "READY"
state or at idle or drive the vehicle
to ensure the battery receives
suicient charge to start
independently after the vehicle is
turned o. A fully discharged
battery may need up to 120
minutes (about 2 hours) of
runtime to recharge completely.
Running the vehicle for less time
may not be enough to restart the
battery.
