Overview

The MOOER X2 Series Stereo Looper Pedal is a versatile and feature-rich device designed for musicians to record, playback, and manage audio loops. It offers a comprehensive set of functionalities for both live performance and practice, with an emphasis on ease of use and creative flexibility.

Function Description

At its core, the LOOPER X2 is a dual-footswitch stereo looper pedal. This means it can record and play back audio in stereo, providing a wider and more immersive sound experience compared to mono loopers. The dual footswitches allow for intuitive control over various looping functions, making it suitable for dynamic live performances where quick transitions and precise timing are crucial.

The pedal boasts a substantial recording capacity, offering up to 77 save slots for a total of 300 minutes of record time. This extensive storage allows users to save numerous musical ideas, song sections, or entire compositions, making it a powerful tool for songwriting, practice, and performance. The saving options are structured around "songs," with each song bank containing multiple save slots. This organization helps users manage their recorded tracks efficiently, allowing for quick recording and playback of different parts of a song or different musical ideas.

A key feature of the LOOPER X2 is its "Auto Record" function. This intelligent feature can automatically start recording when an input signal is detected, eliminating the need for manual activation and ensuring that the loop starts precisely when the user begins playing. The sensitivity of this function can be adjusted via the THRESHOLD knob, allowing users to fine-tune it to their playing style and instrument's output level. This ensures reliable activation without being triggered by unwanted noise.

Another useful function is "Fade Out." When activated, this feature allows recorded tracks to fade out naturally after playback stops, providing a smoother and more professional-sounding end to a loop. The fade out time is adjustable, with a maximum duration of 10 seconds, giving users control over the decay of their loops. If the fade out function is turned off, tracks will stop immediately when playback ceases or when switching to another track.

The LOOPER X2 offers two distinct footswitch modes, enabling players to switch between up to 7 different tracks while playing. This multi-track capability is invaluable for building complex arrangements on the fly, layering different instruments or parts, and creating dynamic song structures.

For enhanced control and integration into existing setups, the pedal is compatible with an external footswitch controller. This allows users to assign additional functions like scrolling through save slots, UNDO/REDO, or CANCEL to an external pedal, freeing up the onboard footswitches for core looping operations.

Finally, the LOOPER X2 comes with specialized editor software. This software serves multiple purposes: it allows for the import and export of audio tracks, facilitating easy transfer of loops between the pedal and a computer, and it enables firmware updates, ensuring the pedal stays current with the latest features and improvements.

Usage Features

The LOOPER X2 is designed for straightforward operation, with a clear layout of knobs and footswitches.

Basic Looper Operation (REC-PLAY-DUB):

  • Recording (REC): To start recording, select an empty slot and press the left footswitch. The LED indicator for the left footswitch will blink red, indicating standby if Auto Record is enabled, or immediately start recording if Auto Record is off.
  • Playing (PLAY): After recording, pressing the left footswitch again will switch to playback mode.
  • Overdubbing (DUB): While a loop is playing, pressing the left footswitch again will enter overdub mode, allowing users to layer new audio on top of the existing loop.

Stopping and Clearing Loops:

  • STOP: During REC/PLAY/DUB, pressing the right footswitch will stop the looper. To resume, press the left footswitch.
  • CLEAR: To clear all data (including saved recorded tracks and imported audio files) from the current slot, press and hold the SAVE button. The LED indicators will blink, and the slot will become empty.
  • DELETE: To delete recorded tracks that have not yet been stored, or to delete an imported audio file in the current slot, press and hold both footswitches simultaneously. If the track is unsaved, the slot becomes empty. If it's an imported file or saved track, the looper will stop and the slot will be cleared.

Undo/Redo:

  • When multiple layers of tracks are recorded, pressing and holding the left footswitch will UNDO the last-recorded layer.
  • Before recording a new layer, pressing and holding the left footswitch again will REDO the last-undone layer.

Cancel (during DUB):

  • If a mistake is made during overdubbing, pressing and holding the left footswitch will cancel and delete the current layer directly. This is distinct from UNDO, as a canceled layer cannot be restored. This function is only available during DUB recording.

Saving Tracks:

  • After recording is complete, press and hold the SAVE button to store the recorded track in the currently selected slot. Unsaved tracks will be lost if the device is powered off. Tracks imported via computer software are automatically stored.

Song Banks and Slots:

  • The LOOPER X2 features 11 song banks, each containing 7 save slots (indicated by 7 LED indicators). The SONG knob is used to cycle through these 11 banks.
  • In banks 1-9, each slot offers a maximum recording time of 2.5 minutes.
  • In banks 10 and 11, each slot provides an extended maximum recording time of 10 minutes.

Volume Control:

  • The PLAY knob controls the looper playback volume level. At 12 o'clock, the playback volume matches the real-time playing volume. It supports up to +6dB volume boost.
  • The REC knob controls the looper recording volume level. Similar to PLAY, at 12 o'clock, the recording volume matches the real-time playing volume, and it also supports up to +6dB volume boost.

Footswitch Modes:

  • During playback, pressing both footswitches simultaneously enters the saving slot switching mode. Both footswitch LEDs will blink red.
  • In this mode, the left footswitch scrolls up through the saving slots, and the right footswitch scrolls down.
  • The pedal will return to normal mode after 3 seconds of inactivity, or by pressing both footswitches simultaneously again.

External Footswitch Control:

  • The LOOPER X2 supports an external footswitch pedal (purchased separately) connected via a 1/8" TRS cable to the EXT CTRL jack.
  • External footswitches can be used to scroll up/down through save slots, or to control UNDO/REDO/CANCEL functions, providing more hands-free operation.

MOOER STUDIO Editor Software:

  • The software allows users to manage audio files, including importing and exporting tracks.
  • It also facilitates firmware updates for the pedal.
  • When connected to the computer, the pedal's footswitches and buttons are inactive for direct control, with all operations managed through the software interface.
  • The software provides an "Audio Preview" function, allowing users to listen to tracks directly from the computer before importing them to the pedal.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • The device should be cleaned only with a soft, dry cloth.
  • If necessary, the cloth can be slightly moistened.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleansers, cleaning alcohol, paint thinners, wax, solvents, cleaning fluids, or chemical-impregnated wiping cloths, as these can damage the unit.

Location and Environment:

  • To prevent deformation, discoloration, or other serious damage, the unit should not be exposed to direct sunlight, magnetic fields, excessive dust or dirt, heat sources, extreme temperature or humidity, high humidity or moisture, or strong vibrations and shocks.
  • Operating the unit at a suitable distance from radios and televisions is recommended to avoid reception interference.

Power Supply:

  • Always use the designated AC adapter (9V DC, 3A, center negative) that supplies the correct voltage.
  • Unplug the power adapter when not in use or during electrical storms.
  • Using the original power supply included with the device is recommended. For optimal performance and to avoid unexpected noise, an isolated power supply is recommended, especially when sharing power with other devices.

Connections:

  • Always turn off the power of the LOOPER X2 and all other equipment before connecting or disconnecting cables. This helps prevent malfunctions and damage to other devices.
  • Ensure all connection cables and the power cord are disconnected before moving the unit.
  • The left output signal is derived from the left input, and the right output signal from the right input. Proper connection setup is crucial for stereo operation.

Firmware Updates:

  • Firmware updates are performed via the MOOER STUDIO editor software.
  • To enter update mode manually: Power off the LOOPER X2, then press and hold both footswitches while powering the unit on. The 1-7 LED indicators will blink chromatically, indicating update mode. Connect the unit to a computer via the USB cable, open the editor software, and follow the on-screen instructions to start the update.
  • It is critical not to stop or power off the Looper X2 or the computer during the firmware update process, as this could corrupt the device. Updates typically take only a few minutes.

Factory Reset:

  • To perform a factory reset, power off the LOOPER X2. Press and hold the SAVE button, then power on the unit. This will reset the device to its factory settings and clear all user data.
