Wear the proper protective clothing when handling the battery. Leaking battery uid
contains acid that can cause burns. Fumes from the leaking uid can cause respiratory
problems.
6. Check battery for signs of leakage or corrosion on the battery cables.
On a monthly basis, check the battery (Item 8, Figure 4–15) for signs of leaking
electrolyte. If any signs of damage are visible, remove and replace the battery.
To prevent corrosion, spray on a battery protectent and sealer onto both terminals and
cable clamps after cables are installed.
The electrical system on this machine is a NEGATIVE ground system.
7. Remove the service access panel (Item 1, Figure 4–15) to access the battery and cables.
Check both of the battery cables (Items 3 and 4, Figure 4–15) for signs of damage or
corrosion. Loosen the cable clamps and remove the cable from the battery. Clean the
terminals with a battery brush. Reinstall and secure the cable clamps.
Check the battery hold down clamp (Items 2 and 5, Figure 4–15) to make sure that the
battery is being held securely to the machine.
If the battery needs to be replaced, make sure to dispose of the old battery according to State
and Local regulations.
