TheGPSLocationServicefeatureusesinformationfromGlobalPositioningSystem(GPS)satellitesorbitingthe
Earthtodeterminetheapproximategeographicallocationofyourradio.
TheGPSLocationServiceavailability,accuracy,andthepositioncalculationtimevarydependingonthe
environmentinwhichyouusetheradio.TheGPSLocationServicecanassistyourdispatcherorcolleaguesinmany
wayssuchasmoreefcientdeploymentofresourcesorlocatingyourradiowhenyoutriggeryouremergencyservice.
TheradiocandisplaythelocationinformationdirectlyonthescreenorsenditovertheairtoyourDispatcherto
displayitinthecontrolcenter.Checkyourradiocongurationdetailswithyourserviceprovider.
Wherethesignalsfromsatellitesarenotavailable,theGPSLocationServicedoesnotwork.Thissituation
usuallyhappenswhenyourradiocannotestablishaviewofawideareaofopensky,forexample,when
yourGPSantennaiscoveredorfacingtheground.Suchsituationsincludebeing:
Inundergroundlocations
Insidebuildings,trains,orothercoveredvehicles
Underanyothermetalorconcreterooforstructure
Nearapowerfulradioortelevisiontower
Inextremetemperatureoutsidetheoperatinglimitsofyourradio
Evenifyourlocationinformationcanbecalculatedinsuchsituations,itmaytakelongertodoso.Therefore,inany
emergencysituation,alwaysreportyourlocationtoyourdispatcher.Whereadequatesignalsfrommultiplesatellites
areavailable,yourGPSLocationServicefeatureprovidesalocation,mostprobablyneartoyouractuallocation.
