TheGPSLocationServicefeatureusesinformationfromGlobalPositioningSystem(GPS)satellitesorbitingthe

Earthtodeterminetheapproximategeographicallocationofyourradio.

TheGPSLocationServiceavailability,accuracy,andthepositioncalculationtimevarydependingonthe

environmentinwhichyouusetheradio.TheGPSLocationServicecanassistyourdispatcherorcolleaguesinmany

wayssuchasmoreefcientdeploymentofresourcesorlocatingyourradiowhenyoutriggeryouremergencyservice.

TheradiocandisplaythelocationinformationdirectlyonthescreenorsenditovertheairtoyourDispatcherto

displayitinthecontrolcenter.Checkyourradiocongurationdetailswithyourserviceprovider.

Wherethesignalsfromsatellitesarenotavailable,theGPSLocationServicedoesnotwork.Thissituation

usuallyhappenswhenyourradiocannotestablishaviewofawideareaofopensky,forexample,when

yourGPSantennaiscoveredorfacingtheground.Suchsituationsincludebeing:

•Inundergroundlocations

•Insidebuildings,trains,orothercoveredvehicles

•Underanyothermetalorconcreterooforstructure

•Nearapowerfulradioortelevisiontower

•Inextremetemperatureoutsidetheoperatinglimitsofyourradio

Evenifyourlocationinformationcanbecalculatedinsuchsituations,itmaytakelongertodoso.Therefore,inany

emergencysituation,alwaysreportyourlocationtoyourdispatcher.Whereadequatesignalsfrommultiplesatellites

areavailable,yourGPSLocationServicefeatureprovidesalocation,mostprobablyneartoyouractuallocation.

ForGPSfeatureperformance,underidealtestconditionsseeTable“GPSSpecication”

TheradiocanbetriggeredtosendLocationReportsinvariouscircumstances,forexample:

•Uponarequest

•EnteringEmergencyMode

•Atspeciedtimeintervals

•Atspecieddistanceintervals

TheLocationReportscanbesentintwowaysusing:

•SDS

•PacketData

IftheLocationReportsaresentoverthePacketData,aPacketDataiconisdisplayedwhenthemessageisbeingsent.

IftheLocationReportsaresentviaSDSwithUserDenedDataType-4asatransportlayer,eithertheETSILIPor

MotorolaLRRPGPSLocationProtocolisused.TheLRRPGPSprotocoleitheruseSDS-TL(foraddedreliability)

orSimpleGPSwithnoSDS-TL(forsavingairinterfaceresources).GPSProtocolIdentiersare:
