CPS,orovertheair.TheCPScongurationprovidesadefaultprole.Thecommandsreceivedovertheairmay
overwritethedefaultproleconguration.Theproleassignedtotheradiodetermineswhentosendlocationdata,
whatdatatosendwithwhataccuracyandtowhataddress.Alldatarequestsandcongurationcommandsreceived
overtheairarecheckedtoconrmtheyhavecomefromatrustedsource.Locationreportsareacceptedonlyfrom
authorizedISSIsorIPs,dependingontheconguredtransportlayer(SDS,PacketData).
Ensuretheapplicationreceivinglocationmessagesandtheradioareconguredinacorrespondingway.
OtherwisetheradiowillrejectallsystemGPSrequests.

4.1EnhancingGPSPerformance
SometimestheGPSfeatureisunabletocompletealocationcalculationsuccessfully.Youhearanaudibletone
indicatingthatyourradiocannotseethesatellites.
Tomaximizetheabilityofyourradiotodeterminealocationxpleasenotethefollowingguidelines:
•Stayintheopen—TheGPSfeatureworksbestwherethereisnothingbetweenyourradioandalargeamount
ofopensky.Ifpossible,gooutside,awayfromtallbuildingsandfoliage.Whiletheperformanceinabuilding
isimprovedbymovingclosertowindows,glasswithcertainsunshieldinglmsmayblocksatellitesignals.
•Positionyourradiotoenhancereception—SignalsfromGPSsatellitesaretransmittedtoyourGPSantenna,
whichisinyourradioantenna.Holdyourradioawayfromyourbody,givingtheantennaclearaccessto
satellitesignals.Donotcovertheantennaareawithyourngersoranythingelse.
•Standstill—Ifpossible,standstilluntilyourradioisnisheddeterminingyourlocation.Movingyour
radioatawalkingpacewhileyourradioiscalculatingyourapproximatelocationmaysubstantiallydecrease
GPSperformance.
