Replacing Belts
NOTE: Therearetwo beltson thissnowthrower:an
augerbeltanddrivebelt.It is recommendedthat both
beltsbereplacedat the sametime.
1. Removethesparkplugwirefromsparkplugandground
itagainsttheenginetopreventaccidentalstarting.
2. Draingasolinefromthe gastank,or placea piece
ofplasticsheetunderneaththe gas capto prevent
gasolineleakage.
WARNING:Performbeltmaintenanceoutdoors as
somegasmaypossiblyleakfrom thecarburetoreven
thoughyouplacedasheetof plasticunderneaththe
gascapto preventthegascapfrom leaking.
3. Removethe self-tappingscrewshowninFigure
11,and pressthe plastictabsto releasethebelt
cover.Pullthe beltcoverupandout fromaroundthe
engineandchuteassembly.Set it asideandsave.
Auger Belt
1. Slipthefrontaugerbeltoffof theenginepulleypushing
itforwardandrollinginoffofthe pulley.SeeFigure12.
2. Squeezetheaugercontrolhandleto releasethe
augerbrake,whichisthe tab thatholdsthe beltonto
theaugerpulley.Removethe belt.
3. Replacewith newbeltafter replacingthedrivebelt.

NOTE:Replacethedrivebelt beforereassemblingthe
newaugerbelt.
1. Tipthe snowthrowerupandforwardso thatit rests
onthe augerhousing.
IMPORTANT:Remember,gascouldleakfromthe
carburatoratthispoint,thegascapshouldhavebeen
coveredwithplasticaspreviouslyinstructed.
2. Removethe springthatconnectsthe transmissionto
a bolton theengineframe.SeeFigure13.
NOTE: Itmaybe easierto first removethe flangelock
nut,then useneedle-nosedpliersto firmlygripspring
andremovefrombolt.
Pivotthetransmissionforwardtoreleasepressureon
thedrivebelt.Removebeltfromtransmissionpulley.

4. Removethe drive beltfromaroundthe enginepulley,
andawayfromthe unit.
5. Placethenewdrivebeltintothegrooveon the
enginepulley.SeeFigure12.
6. Tiltthe transmissionforwardandpositionthe drive
beltontothetransmissionpulley.
7. Reconnectthespringtotheboltontheengineframeand
securethetransmission.Reinstalltheflangelocknut.
8. Installnewaugerbelt.
9. Reassemblethebeltcoveronthe snowthrower.
WARNING
Beforeservicing,
repairing, or inspect-
ing,disengage all
controlsandstop
engine. Wait until all
moving partshave
cometo acomplete
stop. Disconnectspark
plugwire and ground
it against the engine
to preventunintended
starting.Alwayswear
safetyglasses during
operation or while
performingany adjust-
mentsor repairs.
