4.5 Starting the engine from LOP
Preconditions
Gearbox is disengaged.
External start interlock is not activated.
Emergency air-shut-off flaps (if provided) are open.
DANGER
Unguarded rotating and moving engine components.
Risk of serious injury – danger to life!
Before barring or starting the engine, make sure that nobody is in the danger zone.
WARNING
Engine noise above 85 dB (A).
Risk of damage to hearing!
Wear ear protectors.
Barring the engine (out-of-service period > 1 month)

Starting the engine from LOP
Item Task
Engine Make sure that engine is in unloaded condition.
Engine control system Switch ON.
LOP:
LOCAL OPERATION button is illuminated brightly (local operating
mode is active) (→ Page 140);
CLUTCH NEUTRAL button is illuminated brightly (gearbox is disengag‐
ed) (→ Page 140).
LOP Press READY FOR OPERATION button briefly (→ Page 140).
READY FOR OPERATION button is illuminated brightly.
LOP Press START button briefly (→ Page 140).
START button of the engine concerned is illuminated brightly;
Automatic starting procedure is performed;
Tachometer indicates increasing crankshaft speed;
After the starting procedure is completed, engine is running at idle
speed and START button is reset to basic illumination.
